Common Neck Injuries

Whiplash

Whiplash is a neck injury commonly caused by a sudden and forceful back-and-forth movement of the neck, often due to auto accidents or contact sports. It can lead to pain, stiffness, and restricted range of motion in the neck.

Cervical Strain

Cervical strain occurs when the muscles and tendons in the neck are stretched or torn due to overuse, poor posture, or sudden movements. It can result in localized pain and discomfort.

Cervical Herniated Disc

Similar to a herniated disc in the low back, a cervical herniated disc occurs when the soft disc between the neck vertebrae ruptures or bulges, putting pressure on nearby nerves and causing neck pain and sometimes radiating pain down the arms.

Cervical Sprain

A cervical sprain involves the stretching or tearing of the ligaments in the neck, often due to sudden or excessive neck movements. It can cause pain, swelling, and limited neck mobility.

Pinched Nerve

A pinched nerve in the neck, also known as cervical radiculopathy, occurs when a nerve in the cervical spine is compressed or irritated. This can lead to sharp, shooting pain, tingling, and numbness that may radiate down the arms.

Postural Syndrome

Postural syndrome is a type of neck pain that occurs due to prolonged poor posture, especially when sitting or working at a desk for extended periods. It is often characterized by muscle imbalances and strain in the neck and upper back, leading to discomfort and tension.
